Abdominal Therapy
Massage & Self Care
What is Abdominal Therapy?
Abdominal therapy (previously Arvigo® Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy) is best known for addressing misalignment or congestion in the reproductive organs of both male and female bodies, as well as many common digestive disorders.
The techniques effectively alleviates tissue congestion and organ constriction to improve the vital flows of energy, blood, lymph and nerves in the abdomen. It addresses and can release emotional and energetic tension from the abdomen as well. This assists to prevent the progression of chronic disease symptomology while improving the body’s ability to self repair and balance.
Sessions include going over your health care needs/concerns; a specialized massage treatment addressing the abdomen, pelvis, and back; and a customized protocol utilizing lifestyle, diet, nutritional and herbal formulas to target underlying causes.
Typically, 2-3 professional sessions (at a minimum) are required to address most conditions. Clients who perform their self-care massage on a routine basis report an improvement in their symptoms.
PLEASE NOTE: I do not perform these techniques on patients who are pregnant, post ovulation while trying to conceive. Technique will be modified if you have an IUD.

What to Expect During Your Initial Session
An Abdominal Therapy session begins with an exploration of your health history, current circumstances, and goals. This may take place in a virtual meeting or in-person.
The in-person Abdominal Therapy treatment involves an external massage of your entire abdomen: the diaphragm, digestive and reproductive organs, as well as your back, hips, and sacrum. Massaging these areas systematically and thoroughly, affects all the systems of flow in your body: blood, lymph, nerve conduction, and life force or prana. Clients are draped throughout the entire massage to protect their modesty.
Finally, you will learn how to perform Your Abdominal Massage (YAM) and other simple self-care tools that will help to increase treatment benefits for the long term.
What is YAM?
Early in her professional practice, Dr. Rosita Arvigo recognized the need for clients to continue their healing with their own hands, in their own time, in their own homes. With this in mind, she developed her unique self-care massage to encourage and empower her clients to take charge of their healing.
Although Your Abdominal Massage is a simple practice and takes only 10 minutes a day, it has profound, lasting effects on your health and wellbeing. It’s not unusual for clients to report – even years later – that YAM has become an integral part of their daily lives.
What to Expect During Your Follow-up Appointments

History & Lineage
Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy are a combination of science and ancient tradition that an American woman, Dr. Rosita Arvigo, developed throughout her lifetime of studying the human body and the healing properties of plants. She has lived in Central America for over thirty years apprenticing with several healers including Don Eliijio. He was a Shaman in Belize who was famous for his uterine massage techniques and extensive knowledge of rain-forest plants. She also studied with Miss Hortence Robinson, a renowned herbal midwife in Belize. Combining ancient wisdom and modern science, Rosita was able to develop The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy to address digestive and reproductive ailments and gives clients self-care tools to nurture and heal their own bodies. In 1994 she began the Arvigo Institute to teach other health practitioners this powerful and sacred work, and in 2020 started the Abdominal Therapy Collective joining practitioners all around the world.
